What is the ‘West End’ all about?
The “West “End” of Cheltenham is rich in the early history of
the town and has a unique character of its own. There are many
hidden gems of a by-gone age in and around the West End –
buildings reflecting our industrial heritage as well as
established park areas close to traditional housing which make
this area a vibrant community – a fact noted by discerning
developers including the important ‘Brewery Site’ in Henrietta
Street. Pittville Park is of course Cheltenham’s best loved park
around which stands many fine examples of early Victorian
architecture. |
|
Linking the Pittville Estate and town centre
with the railway station in Lansdown Road is the Honeybourne
Cycle Track and Footway. Escaping traffic congestion pedestrians
and cyclists can conveniently pass through the new Waitrose
development site and experience Cheltenham’s backwater alongside
the river Chelt as it meanders through to the Gloucester Road.
Victorian terraced housing is common place and used as both
residential and buy-to-let port folios. Old buildings have been
retained in many instances and converted into contemporary
living spaces. West End is rapidly becoming a desirable area to
live in as it still has affordable housing for first time buyers
alongside new-build projects reflecting the Victorian and early
Edwardian era. |
